Thomas M. Wright is an actor, writer and director from Melbourne who is starting to gain international recognition with his recent work. His television credits include the role of ‘Johnno’ in Jane Campion’s soon to be released Top of the Lake, a co production between the BBC and the Sundance Channel. His previous television work includes Matthew Saville's The King: The Story of Graham Kennedy (2007), Australian primetime dramas Rush and The Secret Life of Us and as a teenager he played the lead role in the Disney tele-feature Stepsister from the Planet Weird. His film work includes the role of Thomas Bodenham in the film Van Diemen's Land (2009), and as murdered journalist Brian Peters in Robert Connolly's Balibo (2009).
A versatile performer, Thomas has strong foundations in theatre having founded and worked as an actor, writer and director for The Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm. Since 2006, Wright has had major roles in plays with the Melbourne Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, and the Malthouse Theatre. In 2011 he portrayed the title role for The Malthouse Theatre and Sydney Theatre Company co-production of Baal, directed by Simon Stone, a performance which garnered critical attention. In 2012, he co-created and directed Doku Rai, a co-production with East Timorese companies Liurai Foer (King Bin) and Galaxie. The show was created in East Timor and presented at the Darwin Festival and Melbourne International Festival in 2012.
Thomas is currently working on the FX pilot The Bridge, a US adaptation of the successful Swedish series alongside Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir.
