Top of the Lake's All-star Cast

Elisabeth Moss as Robin Griffin

Top of the Lake

Robin Griffin is a gutsy but inexperienced detective who investigates the case of a young pregnant girl who has gone missing. Robin is based in Australia but has come to Queenstown, New Zealand, to visit her ailing mother. The case forces her to confront long-buried secrets from her past.

Holly Hunter as GJ

Top of the Lake

GJ is the charismatic spiritual leader of a new age women’s group. Enigmatic and androgynous with waist-length silver hair and an electric detached air, GJ is capable of withering insights. Her brand of kindness is bracingly harsh, but reassuring.

David Wenham as Al Parker

Top of the Lake

Detective Senior Sergeant Al Parker is a mentor to Robin. He enjoys a cushy position as head of the Queenstown Police Station and fits right into the boys’ club atmosphere there. He also runs a coffee shop that hires disadvantaged youth and provides them with work experience.

Peter Mullan as Matt Mitcham

Top of the Lake

Matt Mitcham is Tui’s father. He is violent and controlling, capable of both a rough-hewn charm and horrific flashes of rage. Matt lives by his own rules and is enmeshed in self-pity and a twisted sense of entitlement. He exudes a constant sense of menace.

Thomas M. Wright as Johnno Mitcham

Top of the Lake

Matt Mitcham’s son, Johnno, has recently returned home after 8 years in a Thai prison. He has begun to turn his life around, but remains fragile, and tormented by his past demons. He becomes deeply enmeshed in Robin’s search for his half-sister, Tui.
