“LOREDANA, ESQ.” Recap: Episode 6 (Potheads and Knuckleheads)

I really like this episode as it shows how quickly public opinion can change on an issue as controversial as the legalization of medical marijuana. To date, there are 21 states (plus the District of Columbia) that allow for the legal sale of medical marijuana and another 12 states with pending legislation. This little preamble is meant to highlight the fact that it was only ten short months ago that federal prosecutors were threatening criminal and civil action against the dispensaries if they didn’t cease their activities immediately.

“LOREDANA, ESQ.” Recap: Episode 5 (Don’t Come Back In a Body Bag)

We begin the episode with Loredana on her way to the hospital after receiving a call from her longtime friend and client Andrew Bryniarski. Evidently, Andrew has had an altercation with a neighbor that has resulted in Andrew being stabbed six times with an ice pick. Horrible, but not unimaginable. LD is, after all, a criminal defense attorney and we see a lot of horrible things. What is unimaginable is the fact that the police, although they’ve arrested the accused assailant, John Harris, haven’t issue an emergency protective order for Andrew. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Andrew, he is a muscular 6’5” actor who has made a career of playing intimidating and brutal characters like Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

LOREDANA, ESQ.’s Geoff Blain On His Top 10 Courtroom Dramas

Geoff Blain, the often snappily dressed paralegal on Loredana, Esq., weighs in on his ten favorite courtroom dramas. Of the movies cited, he adds, “The first four represent my childish, romanticized vision of the law while the latter six helped to temper my rosy vista with more realistic and somber grays.”

“LOREDANA, ESQ.” Recap: Episode 4 (Dirty Talk and Stolen Identities)

Loredana may be an ace criminal defense attorney, but when it comes to her personal life, our gal rarely catches a break. While packing to leave town for some much-needed rest and relaxation with Robert and Rocco (gotta love the alliteration), LD gets a call from her friend Kerry Oandasan, who is in jail. To no one’s surprise, LD drops what she’s doing, cancels the trip, and rushes to jail to try to make sense of what‘s happened to her friend. After some discussion, LD, Booker and I realize this is going to occupy quite a block of time as Kerry is facing six felonies – two for identity theft, two for burglary and one each for forgery and credit card fraud. Plus, a $250K bail. All of this on a single mom of four with no priors who decided to go out shopping with her old friend AJ.

“LOREDANA, ESQ.” Recap: Episode 3 (You Make Me Want to Do Crime)

The comedian Christopher Titus once described himself by saying, “I am just a very thin layer of charming with some funny sprinkles wrapped around a huge creamy center of raging, arrogant a-hole.” If you thicken the layer of charm and change “arrogant a-hole” to sexy ballbuster, I think you get a pretty good look at the two sides of LD’s professional personality. Both of which you get to see, side-by-side, in this episode.

4 Questions with “LOREDANA, ESQ.” Star Booker Cole

Booker Cole, co-star of LOREDANA, ESQ., digs into his past as a patrol officer for the LAPD and discusses what makes him an integral member of Loredana’s team.

SundanceTV: How did you meet Loredana?

BC: I met Loredana several years ago, while I was working as a patrol officer. I was dispatched to Loredana’s office to discuss a client issue. The client had been a victim of a crime in another jurisdiction. During our initial meeting I learned that she had been a police officer and she had a thorough understanding of what I could do. I was a licensed attorney at that time and was very impressed with the career transition she had made. Robert, her significant other, was also in the office when I met her. Rocco had not even been thought of yet. We all got along so well that we maintained contact over the years.

5 Big Screen Biker Gangs That You Don’t Want to Mess With (and Why)

Motorcycle gangs in the movies are a lot tougher than they used to be. Just compare the crazy, high-speed stunts in Torque to the football-helmeted road trip rides of Easy Rider. Which one really gets your adrenaline pumping? Before you watch LOREDANA, ESQ. go into combat for some real-life bikers tonight at 10PM/9c on SundanceTV, take a look at these five big-screen biker gangs that make the Hells’ Angels look like… well, angels. Welcome to the new millennium.

“loredana, esq.” recap: episode 2 (naked and afraid)

This week’s episode is bedrock Loredana: Ferocious. Fangs out. Focused. And on fire!

Up first is Mike Mingolello. Mike is an old family friend of LD. Everyone calls him “Chunk.” (Don’t ask me. I don’t know why.) Late one night, LD gets a call from her brother Robert saying that Chunk has been arrested. (Rob says he doesn’t know what the charges are when he calls.) He needs our help. This is a first for Chunk. No prior arrests. Completely out of character. Anyway, LD and Robert bail Chunk out, and as they are walking away from the police station, Chunk gives his side of the story: Late last night, just off work, he stops by an ATM to get some cash. He then gets so spooked when he is approached by three guys that he pulls out his concealed firearm and chases the guys off. Well, the three guys decide to call the cops and when the cops arrive, Chunk gets spooked again and takes off. A police chase ensues and somehow a police officer is assaulted and a police dog is bitten! (He bit a canine with his canines!)

5 Questions with “LOREDANA, ESQ.” Star Loredana Nesci

SundanceTV: You began your career with the LAPD. What made you switch from cop to defense attorney?

LN: The LAPD was always just a stepping stone for me. My goal was always to be an attorney. I detoured into police work to experience criminal cases from the ground floor. When I was a cop I investigated crimes and arrested people. I acquired knowledge that my law books could never teach me. This past experience gives me an edge when dealing with clients and prosecutors, who experience crimes through the written words of police reports. I, on the other hand, have seen death, violence and blood. I was never sure if I would make it home at the end of my watch but I would do it all over again because I am a better attorney for it.
