Sundance Channel Global Launches 2015 Shorts Competition
Sundance Channel Global announced the launch of the 2015 Sundance Channel Shorts competition. The Grand Jury Prize winner’s film will be broadcast on Sundance Channel Global later this year and screened at a special event in London hosted by Sundance Institute in June. Additionally, exclusive partner Vimeo has joined Sundance Channel Global for the Vimeo Audience Award, voted for by viewers and fans as part of the competition.
Geraud Alazard, Vice President of Marketing, AMC Networks International, said, “Our Sundance Channel Shorts competition perfectly represents the unique spirit of Sundance Channel. As the destination for independent films internationally, the channel is ideally placed to showcase and support emerging talent in the European filmmaking community. We’re also thrilled to collaborate with Sundance Institute to present the Grand Jury Prize winner in London this summer. Fans can also take part by voting for their favorite film to receive the Vimeo Audience Award.”
Mike Plante, Senior Programmer for the Sundance Film Festival and a juror of the competition, commented: “Short filmmaking offers opportunities for creativity and innovation, and Sundance Channel Shorts does a great job shining a spotlight on the form. I’m excited to view the entries and see what stories filmmakers have chosen to tell.”
The 2015 Sundance Channel Shorts competition will include two prizes. The Grand Jury Prize will be judged on several criteria, including creativity, entertainment value, original storytelling and production values. The jury members will include Harold Gronenthal and Pilar de las Casas from Sundance Channel, Mike Plante from Sundance Institute, Jason Sondhi from Vimeo and Victor Sánchez García from Movistar tv. The winner of the Grand Jury Prize will receive a trip for two to a screening of their film at a special event in London hosted by Sundance Institute in June. The winning film will also be broadcast on Sundance Channel Global later in the year. Additionally, the Vimeo Audience Award will be voted for by independent film fans online and the entry with the highest number of votes will receive a high-end digital camera as well as a 12-month Vimeo Pro membership. Voting for the Vimeo Audience Award will take place from 27th April to 8th May at www.sundancechannel.es/scshorts. The winners of the Sundance Channel Shorts Grand Jury Prize and the Vimeo Audience Award will be announced in May.
