Jada AlbertsPlays Nerida West
Jada Alberts was born and raised in her grandfather's country, Larrakia in Northern Territory, Australia, and has family ties to the Yanyuwa, Bardi and Wardaman peoples. She has studied and practiced in the performing arts from a young age and, in 2006, graduated from the Adelaide Centre of the Arts. An associate artist at Belvoir Street Theatre in Sydney, Jada has performed in This Heaven (Belvoir); Yibiyung (Belvoir / Malthouse Theatre); The Shadow King (Malthouse Theatre /Sydney Festival); Hipbone Sticking Out (Yijala Yala / Big hART); Frost/Nixon, The Birthday Party (Melbourne Theatre Company); Wulamanayuwi and the Seven Pamanui (Darwin Festival) and several national and international tours of Saltbush (Insight Arts). Her credits include feature film Red Hill and Australian television's Redfern Now and Wentworth. Jada is also a director, dramaturge and playwright. In addition to starring as Nerida West in Cleverman, Jada is also a writer on Season 1 and 2. In 2013, she was awarded the Balnaves Foundation Indigenous Playwright's Award and her plays Elektra/Orestes (with Anne-Louise Sarks) and Brothers Wreck have both been produced by Belvoir Street as part of their main stage season. Her debut work, Brothers Wreck, received critical acclaim and a nomination at the 2014 Sydney Theatre Awards (for Best New Australian Work), as well as a nomination for the Nick Enright Prize for Playwriting at the 2015 NSW Premier's Literary Awards.
