Filmmaker John Waters cast Johnny Depp in his first major feature-film role as Wade “Cry-Baby” Walker, a “50s bad boy with a perpetual tear running down his cheek. (Depp’s breakout performance as Edward Scissorhands came later that year.) Waters revels in a cheeky and outrageous satire of Eisenhower-era teen-exploitation films, paying close attention to the signature clothing, kitsch and hairstyles of the time. Costarring Amy Locane as the good girl who wants to be bad; with cameos from Patty Hearst, Troy Donahue, Willem Dafoe and others.
