Today at Sundance — Day 5 with Richard Linklater, Shia Lebouf and the secrets of WikiLeaks

Today, we’ve got king of indie romance Richard Linklater’s latest entry in probably the longest-running rom-com series in history, the inside story on Julian Assange, and, well, Shia Lebouf. We hear he’s got some fans. All that and more below.

THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN 6:30P Eccles Theatre
Traveling abroad, Charlie Countryman falls for Gabi, a Romanian beauty whose unreachable heart has its origins in Nigel, her violent, charismatic ex. As the darkness of Gabi’s past increasingly envelops him, Charlie resolves to win her heart, or die trying. Shia Lebouf and Evan Rachel Wood headline the cast.

THE WAY, WAY BACK 3:30P Eccles Theatre
Duncan, an introverted 14-year-old, is on an awkward vacation with his mother, Pam, her overbearing boyfriend Trent, and his daughter Steph. Over the summer, Duncan comes into his own when he forms unlikely friendships with the gregarious manager of a rundown water park and the misfits who work there.

BEFORE MIDNIGHT 9:45P Eccles Theatre
It’s been nine years since we last saw Jesse and Celine in BEFORE SUNSET, and this time we pick up their trail in Greece. Almost two decades have passed since their first meeting on that train bound for Vienna. Before the clock strikes midnight, we will again become part of their story. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy once again reprise their roles in this long-running romantic trilogy.

WE STEAL SECRETS: THE STORY OF WIKILEAKS 5:15P The MARC
The definitive story of Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks, WE STEAL SECRETS explores the people and events behind the upstart website that rocked the U.S. government, ushered in a new era of transparency and ignited an information war. Find out how just a handful of people changed the face of government around the world, perhaps forever.
