Today at Sundance — Day 1 with Dave Grohl, Dick Cheney and Jane Austen

It’s pretty cold out here, but we’ve got some hot premieres to keep us toasty today. Step inside for a hot cup of lovely ladies sleeping with…their best friends’ sons. Or perhaps just a cup of coffee if you happen to be in Park City (we’re at 268 Main St., btw). Read on for tonight’s big premieres, including more than you ever wanted to know about Dick Cheney, an amusement park for the ladies and a doc from Foo Fighter’s frontman Dave Grohl that will blow out your ears.

SOUND CITY, 2:30P The MARC
Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) takes us on a musical journey at the legendary Sound City recording studio. Tucked away behind train tracks and dilapidated warehouses in the sunburnt San Fernando Valley, Sound City became rock ’n’ roll hallowed ground where music’s megastars captured their magic on analog tape for three decades. Through interviews and performances with the legendary musicians and producers who worked at America’s greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City, Grohl and his musical peers explore the human element of music, and the lost art of analog recording in an increasingly digital world.

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO DICK CHENEY, 5:30P The MARC
Dick Cheney is the most powerful, most controversial and in his words, “most consequential” Vice President in American history. This dramatic and intimate examination of Cheney’s life, career, relationships and worldview features interviews with Cheney and those closest to him. How did this man rise from a double DUI-offender in a Wyoming jailhouse to become part of the powerful inner sanctum at the White House?

DON JON’S ADDICTION, 6:30P Eccles Theatre
Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Jon Martello, a selfish Don Juan type nicknamed “Don Jon” by his friends for his ways with women. Unsatisfied by either the real women he beds or the pornography he’s addicted to, Jon sets out looking for true love. This marks Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s debut as the filmic triple threat – actor, director, screenwriter – and it’s both charming and sincere.

AUSTENLAND, 12:15P, Eccles Theatre
Jane’s obsession with Jane Austen leads her to Austenland, a vacation paradise where her fans can live the life of the writer’s books. As Jane immerses herself in the experience of living the Regency era, she meets a gallant young suitor as fantasy and reality begin to merge. A wickedly funny and irreverent comedy that plays on society’s infatuation with Austen’s world.

TWO MOTHERS 9:45P Eccles Theatre
This gripping tale of love, lust and the power of friendship charts the unconventional and passionate affairs of two lifelong friends who fall in love with each other’s sons. Naomi Watts and Robin Wright co-star as the two friends whose lives are ripped apart when the affairs are discovered.

That’s not all. Today is chock full of amazing premieres. Check out the entire day’s schedule here.
