We prefer New Year's Eve songs — Just like Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The 500 DAYS OF SUMMER festival faves may have not made it together on the big screen, but they’ve been good friends for years. Now, they are stepping out as musical collaborators with a charming (OK, adorkable) cover of Nancy Wilson’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve“?

New Year’s Eve songs are so much better than Christmas songs. I don’t want to get swept up in the War on Christmas with my secular preferences, but (almost) everyone acknowledges that when December ends…a new year begins. And that’s something to celebrate. Come to think of it, why aren’t there more New Year’s Eve songs? People are always looking to make out at midnight and I think any artist would appreciate having their song associated with that kind of action. No matter what you think of indie darlings Zooey and JGL, this song is way better than Auld Lang Sine (unless it’s the Elvis version).

Like this sort of sing-songy joie de vivre? Joseph Gordon-Levitt is bringing his collaborative production project Hit RECord to Sundance on January 26th. We’re expecting special guests…perhaps even a Zooey duet?
