A Flurry of Sundance Film Festival Deals


More deals closed Monday at the Sundance Film Festival. Among them:

Andrew Rossi’s PAGE ONE: A YEAR INSIDE THE NEW YORK TIMES: Magnolia Pictures and Participant Media have partnered to purchase the U.S. rights to the film, a documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes at the venerable broadsheet, with a theatrical release planned for this year. [More info]

Matthew Chapman’s THE LEDGE: IFC Films has acquired the U.S. rights for the film, now playing in the festival’s U.S. Dramatic Competition. Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, calls THE LEDGE “a well crafted and morally complex thriller that will really get people talking.” [More info]

Cindy Meehl’s BUCK: Sundance Selects announced Monday it had acquired the North American rights to the film, which centers around master horseman Buck Brannaman and is currently playing in the U.S. Documentary Competition. “Our entire company has fallen in love with BUCK,” Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said in a statement announcing the deal. “Cindy Meehl’s funny, deeply inspiring and crowd pleasing film about Buck Brannaman has ignited the passion of audiences in Park City and we’re confident the rest of the country will feel the same.” [More info]

Kevin Macdonald’s LIFE IN A DAY: National Geographic Films has picked up U.S. distribution rights to the film, the results of a global experiment in user-generated filmmaking. “The non-profit will release the film theatrically day-and-date along with YouTube, which helped orchestrate the massive project, July 24 — exactly a year after the film’s footage was shot around the world,” the Hollywood Reporter notes.
