Last month, the Vimeo Festival + Awards gave out $5,000 grants, as well as a $25,000 Grand Prize, to winners in 13 categories. Now Sundance Channel, which was pleased to be a partner and sponsor of the awards, is getting ready to air some of the best — and to get you up to speed, we’re sharing a list of all the winners!

Experimental video is a term that can be taken quite loosely; you can fiddle around with your webcam and preloaded editing software, and voila, you’re being experimental! But the French boys who make up the team known as Cokau take things to the next level with PRIE DIEU, the short that took home the prize for Best Experimental Video at the Vimeo Festival + Awards 2012. With just a praying mantis as its subject, the piece plays with light, editing and especially sound in such a novel way, it feels like a healthy update to your fave music video from the Nine Inch Nails.
The Narrative category at the Vimeo Festival + Awards served as a frank reminder (or wakeup call for those who don’t know): some of the best film out there isn’t at the theatre. It’s not even on demand. It’s here, online. And best of all: it’s considerably shorter than anything even remotely feature length, which sits perfectly well with the current average attention span ability to sit still for more than 3-6 minutes!
