You hear a lot these days about Republicans rolling back women’s rights all the way to the ’50s and ’60s: vowing to defund Planned Parenthood; to allow employers to decide whether or not their female employees can have their contraception covered; to put the rights of an embryo above those of a woman via the Personhood Amendment; to outlaw all abortions, even in cases of rape, incest, and threats to not only the health but the life of the mother. They won’t even commit to laws ensuring equal pay for women doing the same work as men!
Todd Akin made a simple mistake. When he said “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” he was obviously referring to ducks. And come on, who hasn’t on occasion confused the human female reproductive system with that of a duck?
Article: Attend summer camp with Mitt Romney for a mere $50,000 — We're planning some summer fun for the 1%
Well, we’ve got our nominee squared away so the Romney camp decided to get all Kickstarter-y with their big money donors over the weekend. Buzzfeed got their little mitts on a fundraising letter that went out to high net worth individuals over the weekend. And if you are ready to pony up a cool $50k then get ready for special access at the inauguration (a bit presumptive, no?), along with some quality time with Mitt, and your fellow big donors, at a summertime escape with the candidate himself:
BuzzFeed (going increasingly political with their recent hiring of Ben Smith from Politico) has a hilarious photo recap of the recent GOP debates that’s focused on simply their hand gestures. My favorite is the one above of Romney displaying the “He Was THIS Tall” expression.
The big political news in the States this morning is Rick Santorum’s resurgence in the GOP race (otherwise known as the hilarious new reality show The Amazing GOP Race) with his nearly come from behind upset over Mitt Romney, which may please the Santorum campaign and supporters (did they celebrate with some orders of Santorum salad?), but it sure freaked everybody else out. At least it made the Internet gleeful for all the NSFW pun opportunities. It’s not a big secret that the number one return when you Google search “Santorum” is an explicit sexual definition, which was payback initiated by columnist Dan Savage following the senator’s hateful comments on homosexuality. Here are some of the best comments I’ve seen so far this morning from various corners of the Internet and friends on the Iowa GOP nomination results:
