What did you do Memorial Day weekend? Oh, you didn’t stay in and watch the BAFTAs on Sunday night? And you don’t know what the BAFTAs are? Well, it’s the annual awards celebration for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (so, it’s like the Emmy Awards). Anyway, on Sunday the cast of the Sundance Channel original drama APPROPRIATE ADULT, the story of British serial killer Fred West and his relationship with his here.
Congratulations to Emma Watson on her Golden Globe nomination for Sundance Channel original movie APPROPRIATE ADULT. Watson’s Janet Leach is up against some pretty heavy hitters in the Best Actress — Miniseries or Movie category. It’s a Brit-heavy competition featuring Kate Winslett, Mildred Pierce; Elizabeth McGovern, Downton Abbey; Romola Garai, The Hour (which stars APPROPRIATE ADULT’s Dominic West); and some American lady named Diane Lane, CINEMA VERITE.
If you are anything like us, you can’t wait to see more of Dectective McNulty looking like Creepy McCreeperson. But, if you are not one of the legions of fans ready to tune into APPROPRIATE ADULT on Saturday night then perhaps we can convince you.
Emily Watson is one of those rare, highly versatile actresses that plays such a wide variety of roles – from a private eye to a housemaid to a dead bride and everything in between – that she literally defies typecasting. Two of her most memorable recent roles include Tammy, the assistant to Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Caden Cotard in SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK (2008) and Margaret Humphreys, a Nottingham social worker in the critically acclaimed ORANGES AND SUNSHINE (2010). I, along with everyone here at Sundance, am eagerly awaiting her next big role alongside Dominic West (The Wire) in APPROPRIATE ADULT, the upcoming Sundance Channel Original Mini-Series, airing this Fall.
New York, NY – July 21, 2011 – On the heels of two Emmy® nominations for its first scripted drama “Carlos,” Sundance Channel announces a second original drama, APPROPRIATE ADULT. Based on true events, APPROPRIATE ADULT tells the story of British serial killer Fred West and his relationship with his “appropriate adult,” Janet Leach. In the UK, an “appropriate adult” is appointed to sit in on police interviews with children or vulnerable adults to safeguard their interests.
