Peek into your favorite author's bedroom

Peek into your favorite author's bedroom

Apartment Therapy put together this neat photo gallery of the bedrooms of 15 noted authors from Ernest Hemingway to Victor Hugo, whose room is particularly striking with its dark red embossed walls and decor. Pictured above is the rather austere space of Emily Dickinson, reflecting her reclusive lifestyle, and the tiny table where she wrote her poems. There’s a quiet beauty to it, but best expressed via this meme, I can’t help but ask:

Tom Wolfe and Kurt Vonnegut chilling

To date myself a bit, my first ever “term paper” was an assignment in 3rd grade and I typed it all out…

Getting insulted by authors

Getting insulted by authors

Two first-namer Bill Ryan has a novel (pun!) hobby that takes him to book signings where he asks authors to commemorate his copy with their signature and an insult, which he then shares on his blog. Amy Sedaris’ insult is rather NSFW, but SUNfiltered readers are a mature and appreciative crowd!

How to correctly pronounce authors' names

The downside of an analog reading experience is that books don’t give you definitions of words you don’t know nor does it provide the proper pronunciation for author names. Here’s a handy cheat sheet for the latter issue. The only author I intentionally mispronounce is Ayn Rand’s name. I’ve known the correct way for a…
