Robert Redford joins One Billion Rising to end violence against women
Robert Redford is speaking out on behalf of a global effort to end violence against women.
The Sundance founder is joining Vagina Monologues author Eve Ensler’s One Billion Rising, which encourages people around the world to “walk out, dance, rise up and demand an end to the violence.”
In Redford’s “Why I am rising” video, he says, “This is not a women’s issue; it’s a global crisis… Let’s work together to ensure that no more mothers, no more daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, no more grandmothers experience violence.”
The effort culminates in a “global strike” on V-Day, February 14, 2013. Other celebrities who have already loaned their voices to the cause include Lily Tomlin, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson.
But they’re going to need a whole lot more of us to join in to get to that billion-person goal. So let’s get involved!
