Celebrate Independence Day on the web
Because going outside is dangerous (sunburns and explosives come to mind), we’ve got the best of the Fourth online. With Independence Day falling awkwardly on Wednesday this year, it feels like we’re being cheated and our right to celebrate properly is being infringed upon. At least this is the prevailing mood of those of us who are working all week or as @NamOf succinctly tweeted, this is “the least 4th of July week ever.” However perhaps this is a good thing for America because it may compel us to moderate and restrain ourselves a bit more than we would if the holiday occurred instead on a Friday or the weekend, especially when adult beverages and fireworks are involved. Consider the above video titled “The Ultimate Fireworks Fail Compilation” a poetic cautionary tale for those of you who plan on nominating yourself for the Darwin Awards with some fireworks after feasting on vodka-infused watermelon all day. Another pro-tip learned from the video: Don’t put fireworks in or near any of your orifices…or any body part for that matter.
- Speaking of cautionary tales, parents: If your child can’t sing then don’t dress him in a sequin stars and stripe vest and hand him a microphone to sing “Proud to be an American.” The child doesn’t know any better. I blame the parents.
- Hey, let’s take strawberries–properly delicious and yummy all on their own–and make them super unhealthy for the sake of being patriotic! It’s not like our country has any issues with obesity.
