Best videos of the week, starring a Snuggie

A good number of the videos trending this week are music-related, so I’ve rounded up the five best here for your pleasure. If you’re viewing this at work or at a library as a little mental recess, I highly recommend you turn up your computer speakers. Your coworkers or fellow students will shower you with gratitude.

5. The world didn’t realize there was a void until it saw this kid’s tribute: a frame-by-frame recreation of Beyoncé’s “Countdown” video. A tribute that involves, by the way, a Snuggie. I would go so far as to say that the Snuggie is the star. I have a feeling this video might have just spawned a new subgenre of Snuggie music videos on YouTube, and for that we can thank and blame this kid.

4. YouTube Tweeted to its 14 million-plus followers this parody of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow.” It gets the international flavor courtesy of India by Biz Kulfi and “Khala Peela.”

3. Coming back stateside, we have this political parody using Jay Z’s “99 Problems” that could be the fight song for the Obama reelection campaign. The imitation of President Obama’s professorial tics are pretty good and the production quality is impressive! Obama’s got 99 problems, but Mitt ain’t one!

2. What could possibly make me sit through and listen to an entire song by Aaron Carter? Only this video. It’s a lip dub video by puckish Alex Dainis that only took her six years to create. She recorded herself at the ages of 17, 20 and 23 singing (rap-singing?) along perfectly to a perfectly ridiculous song. As she writes: “I think it’s simultaneously the best and worst idea I’ve ever had.” I feel the same way about the song itself.

1. I can’t believe it, but “Call Me Maybe” is number one yet again. This week the song goes STAR WARS — in a galaxy far, far away, the disciples of the light and dark side stop their warring ways just long enough to sing this inescapable ditty together.
