Online video gets the serial treatment at the Vimeo Fest
In the ‘Series’ competition at the Vimeo Festival + Awards, video-makers competed with pieces they made in parts, like those serials from back in the day…but updated in an online sorta way. The winning series, OFTEN AWESOME, takes a look at one man’s diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and the effect it has on himself and his best friend/lover. A quietly heartbreaking moment.
A breakdown of the other finalists:
Sebastian Junger (author of A Perfect Storm, among other awesome things), actress Malin Ackerman and other celebs recount their most intimate dream experiences in Sundance Channel’s series DREAMSTATES (congrats to us, by the way). The confessional series that reminds us: famous people are just like the rest of us, they have batshit-crazy dreams too
In MEMORYBOX, a montage of images and sounds mesh to create the distinct feeling of memory (and yes, this one could have easily been classified as part of the Experimental category).
LITTLE BIG WORLD could be seen as experimental or even as a music video, setting a bustling, diorama-like version of the world in motion to the majestic music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Shot in Myanmar.
