Richard Sandling's 200 VHS movie covers

Comedian and self-declared VHS enthusiast Richard Sandling owns over 3,000 movies on VHS, and he scanned 200 of their covers for this project. His collection seems to lean heavily on pulp, but this might also be a reflection of the era in which VHS was most prevalent. And as much as I laughed at many of the covers (like Madonna in A CERTAIN SACRIFICE or SAVAGE STREETS), in all seriousness, I think a project like this is an important archival effort to capture a lost art. With the advent and rapid trend towards online movie rentals and purchases, we’ve lost what used to be an important part of film marketing and the home movie-watching experience: looking at the cover art and reading the film descriptions on the back of a VHS (or DVD, or CD, for that matter).
