What's on Sundance Channel next?

The last day of August means two things: the official end of Summer (boo) and the beginning of Fall (yay) – and with it, a whole month chockfull of specially chosen films on Sundance Channel (double yay!). We’ve got blocks of sexy films, environmental films, foreign films, independent films and festival premiers. You’re bound to see some old favorites, some big screen hits and plenty of new classics just waiting to make their way onto your Best Films of All Time list.

We’re kicking things off this Satruday with a midnight screening of the sexy Korean thriller, HOUSEMAID, nominated last year at Cannes for the Palme d’Or. Then wake up Sunday morning to see what a mess one small family can make in GARBAGE! THE REVOLUTION STARTS AT HOME, a documentary about the McDonalds, your average suburban family who saved every piece of trash they accumulated over a three month period. The results…umm…stink.

Things get heavy on Sunday night with Sidney Lumet’s BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD. The all-star ensemble cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, Albert Finney, Amy Ryan and Michael Shannon. Hoffman and Hawke play brothers who pull a robbery on their parents’ jewelry store, and it goes horribly, horribly wrong. This isn’t like when Luke and Owen Wilson pull a cute, fake robbery in their parents’ house in BOTTLE ROCKET. Hoffman and Hawke get in way over their heads and bring everyone down with them. A cautionary note: if you like to eat your dinner without a helping of Hoffman pummeling Tomei from behind, you might want to wait a few minutes after the film starts to dig into the homemade pasta you lovingly prepared and is now tainted forever with the image of Hoffman’s pink, freckly ass.
