Hollywood stars in Japanese commercials
Although famous actors don’t like to broadcast it, for one to protect their public image, they often go overseas to star in silly commercials, especially in Japan. Thanks to YouTube this is no longer a secret. In fact it was a plot device used in LOST IN TRANSLATION where Bill Murray’s character “Bob Harris” finds himself in Japan for a scotch commercial. A quick search on YouTube will reveal that actors such as Sean Connery, Tommy Lee Jones, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Travolta, Nicholas Cage, as well as Michael Jackson and Madonna have pitched various products in Japan. I think it’s so meta that even Andy Warhol went to Japan to star in this commercial. Above is James Brown doing his best James Brown for a cup noodle miso soup.
