BFF: Bicycle Film Festival

For some people a bright idea is like a light bulb switching on in their heads; for others it’s like getting hit by a bus. Unfortunately for Brendt Barbur, the latter is literally true. In 2001 he was hit by a bus while riding his bike in NYC. The incident gave him the idea for the Bicycle Film Festival, or BFF, which he started later that year.

Anyone can submit to BFF as long as their film is somehow bike-related. Given that bike culture is now a widespread phenomenon (and the subject of hilarious spoofs, as in IFC’s “Portlandia”), the festival has drawn entries from all around the world. Just check out the trailer to see footage from previous entries.

Now in its 11th year, BFF will travel to over 25 cities, including New York, Paris, Sao Paolo, Vienna and Tokyo. If you’d like to submit, send in your short by April 1, 2011. Submission is free.
