A log cabin on wheels

Modular, mobile living was a big theme in design this year, from prefabricated, shippable houses to small temporary rooms that can be set up anywhere you like, in the backyard or the backwoods. The front runner, however, has to be the log cabin designed by Piet Hein Eek.

Working in a huge variety of materials and on projects that range from coffee cups to restaurants, Eek is nothing if not a Renaissance man. For the log cabin, he combined his rural Dutch roots and his own minimalistic aesthetic to reinvent the classic Linkin Logs-style cabin. The result is a stunning, modern twist on the form. This particular cabin was created for Hans Liberg, who uses it for his music studio. It’s currently in Hilversum, Netherlands, but it can travel anywhere.
