P.S.1 MoMA's Young Architects Program

From Matter Architecture Practice: “We have yet to effectively update this site.” Emerging indeed!

Earlier this week, P.S.1 MoMA announced the finalists for the 2011 Young Architects Program, their award for emerging architecture firms. The winning firm gets to take over P.S.1′s front outdoor garden space, where the museum hosts a string of events as soon as the weather allows. The five competing firms have the next three months to put the finishing touches on their proposals before the final decision is made in February.

Of the five firms, only a few have searchable or operational websites, and even fewer have actual photos of completed projects as opposed to 3D renderings, so kudos to MoMA for sticking to their guns when they say ‘emerging.’ The award carries with it a lot of publicity, so it’s a pretty big deal for up-and-coming architects. Last year’s winner, So-Il, has gone on to some exciting new projects as a direct result of their win at P.S.1. This year’s finalists include three firms from Brooklyn, Formless Finder, Interboro Partners and Matter Architecture Practice, as well as MASS Design Group out of Boston and British firm IJP Corporation Architects. Stay tuned — we’ll keep you posted as to who the winner is in February.
