Richard Chai + Snarkitecture

Now that the High Line’s HL23 condos have no further use for their onsite Sales Tin, the long, indoor rectangular box used as a model home display is getting a new life with Building Fashion’s series of architecture and fashion collaborations/installations. Each collab gets a two week shelf life before its swapped out with something new. The latest in the series comes from Richard Chai and Snarkitecture, whose founders Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen carved an ice cave out of architectural foam. The foam was cut by hand to include shelves and niches for shoes and folded clothes as well as spaces for hang bars. The use of a single, white material falls right in line with Snarktecture’s other installations, and the texture of the foam provides just enough contrast to Chai’s minimalist aesthetic while furnishing a most appropriate backdrop to the coming winter chill.
