The Subjects:

As chef and co-owner of Blue Hill restaurant and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Dan Barber has received two James Beard awards and in 2009 was named one of the world’s most influential people in Time Magazine’s annual “Time 100”.  Through his writings on food and agricultural policy and his work on President Obama’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, Dan Barber continues to promote a consciousness around everyday food and a new ecological approach to cuisine.

Dancer and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade has worked with some of the most exciting choreographers in the dance world, many of the best actors in theater and film, and a number of icons in the jazz world.  She is currently a member of the dance company Paradigm with founder Gus Solomons Jr.

Successful fashion designer Carolina Herrera has been honored with the Council of Fashion Designers of America Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.  She oversees an international design firm which encompasses her signature fashion collection, a bridal collection, fragrances and accessories.

Yoko Ono is an award-winning multi-media artist and peace activist who constantly challenges and stretches the traditional boundaries of sculpture, painting, theater and music.

Perhaps best known for his striking work with Calvin Klein, photographer Mario Sorrenti has worked with most major magazines and many of the leading fashion and beauty houses.  He has directed music videos, published books and his work has appeared in numerous exhibitions.

Award-winning artist Mickalene Thomas is known for her elaborate paintings depicting African American women.  This year she was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art to create a work for the façade of The Modern.  Her work is in many public collections including the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC and the Art Institute in Chicago.

Although Massimo Vignelli is best-known to most New Yorkers as the designer of the iconic signage for the NYC Subway System, he is an award-winning, critically-acclaimed designer with an extensive body of work.  Through Vignelli Associates, which he co-founded with his wife Lella, his work includes graphic and corporate identity programs, publication designs, architectural graphics, and exhibition, interior, furniture and consumer product designs.
