52 architecture VIPs vote on the most important buildings and structures

Vanity Fair sent 52 of the “world’s leading architects, critics, and deans of architecture schools” a two part survey asking them first, their list of “the five most important buildings, bridges, or monuments constructed since 1980,” and second, what they considered to be “the greatest work of architecture thus far in the 21st century.” Among the 132 different structures that were listed, here is a (gorgeous) photo gallery of the top 21, including the Lloyd’s Building in London. This gleaming structure made the biggest impact on me when I was 10 years old or so when I traveled to London with my mom. I remember being rendered speechless by it, thinking it looked like something from the distant future, and scarcely having the words to describe what I was seeing.
