NATURE BY NUMBERS is a short film by Cristóbal Vila, which is “inspired on numbers, geometry and nature.” It’s mesmerizing visualization of mathematical concepts and how their patterns are revealed in nature. Relatedly, earlier this spring, the New York Times published a neat online series by Steven Strogatz, a professor of applied mathematics at Cornell University, where he Wrote “about the elements of mathematics, from pre-school to grad school, for anyone out there who’d like to have a second chance at the subject — but this time from an adult perspective.” I especially enjoyed his explanation of the mathematical system underlying flipping mattresses.
