Kate Neckel at the Ace Hotel

The Ace Hotel in NY is certainly going the extra mile to set themselves apart from the growing number of boutique hotels in the city with their series of artist collaborations (like their commission from Chris Rubino). Their latest project pairs the doodles of artist Kate Neckel and room 1208, where she spent four days drawing on the walls with her family, friends, hotel staff and guests.

“We didn’t plan to shoot pics with guests and staff, it happened naturally. The vibe at the Ace is very open, creative and inclusive so it made sense to have guests, staff and friends be a part of the piece. The wall grew on its own and evolved according to who dropped in and what was happening. I was in the elevator heading back up to the room and I started chatting with a really cute duo from Paris. They asked where I was visiting from and I said I lived in the neighborhood and was drawing on the wall in room 1208. They were curious about the project so I let them come in for a peek and they posed in front of the wall.”

The drawing, which will remain a permanent part of the room, is a good introduction to the rest of Kate’s work which, like the drawing, includes a little bit of everything. “I draw, paint, snap picture and shoot little videos.”
