Art of food photography
The concept of photoblogging of food, or rather artfully composed photo documentation of one’s gourmet dishes has been around for awhile. I used to be rather obsessive about doing this. The New York Times recently covered this phenomenon of people sharing online a photographic food diary, and the article featured the photos and blog of my Twitter buddy Nora. This topic is elevated to a higher artsy ground with The Getty’s new exhibition “Tasteful Pictures.”
Food, from basic sustenance to savory repasts, awakens the senses. Drawn from the J. Paul Getty Museum’s collection, this exhibition provides an overview of photographers’ responses to this rich subject. Spanning the period from the mid-19th century until today, the images highlight important technological and aesthetic innovations as well as matters of taste.
This exhibit is on display through August 22.
