Olaf Hajek, "Masqeurade"

Last month Gestalten released “Flowerhead,” a collection of prints and illustrations by Olaf Hajek, one of the most successful artists working today. His clients range from corporate to creative, and of course the book includes illustrations made for no one but himself. What strikes you first about Hajek’s pieces is the craftsmanship. Not only that there is an obvious, painstaking attention to detail but that his work has a tactile quality not found much in illustration, especially as more and more illustrators move their work onscreen. That’s why the seeing his work in person actually makes a huge difference, and if you’re in Atlanta, Hajek’s birthplace, you have the rare opportunity to see the pieces up close at the Marcia Wood Gallery.

“Masquerade” at the Marcia Wood Gallery until March 20, 2010.
