It’s common knowledge that “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles was the first song aired ever on this new and revolutionary channel when it launched on August 1, 1981, but in remembrance of the channel’s past, The Top 13 selects their top 13 music video picks from that bellwether day for music and television.

Talking Heads, “Once in a Lifetime”
Pretenders, “Brass in Pocket”
Blondie, “Rapture”
Phil Collins, “In the Air Tonight”
David Bowie, “Ashes to Ashes”
The Who, “You Better You Bet”
Elvis Costello, “Oliver’s Army”
Gerry Rafferty, “Baker Street”
Iron Maiden, “Iron Maiden”
April Wine, “Just Between You and Me”
