The Boston Globe’s Big Picture recently had a collection of photographs around the theme of gold, a metal which has reached “record highs recently, climbing over 135% in value in the past year alone.” I was amazed by this particular recent photo of the largest solid gold brick in the world! Valued currently at $7.8 million, it weighs 220kg and can be viewed at the Jinguashi Gold Museum in Ruifang, Taipei county. I along with many other people really dig the Big Picture segment of the Globe, but I felt a real dissonance between seeing this decadent entry on gold sandwiched between their heart wrenching images of the disaster in Haiti.
