From the people who brought you the Rubik’s cube, the ballpoint pen, Wassily Kandinsky, and last, but not least, the safety match, comes Extremely Hungary, a year long celebration of all things Hungarian. The New York happenings kicked off with the beginning of fashion week with an interactive shoot outside the Grace Building. In fact, tomorrow from noon to 2 is your last chance to get your photo taken alongside Hungarian designers with an 8×10 Polaroid, a favorite of Richard Avedon and Helmut Newton.
Upcoming events include the silly but spectacular mustache contest and the fin-de-siècle style Cabaret Magyar inspired by Hungarian wonders like “Harry Houdini, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Ex-Lax.” Things pick up October with participation from BAM, The Brooklyn Museum, and MoMA. I’ll let you know when they break out the goulash.
