Big, gay and sprinkled

If lucky enough to spend your days sunning yourself on the Christopher Street piers you may hear the familiar jingle of an ice cream truck in the not too far distance. Only this one’s probably playing Judy Garland. The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck is not a gimmick. It’s legit and is crisscrossing the gays streets of Chelsea, Brooklyn and the Village bringing toppings as odd as cayenne and olive oil to a gay ghetto near you. Doug Quint, the proprietor, told Serious Eats “let’s face it, ice cream trucks are kind of queer, and a middle-aged white man driving one is pretty suspect.” Exactly. Even if you’re not in New York City this summer you can still buy into the gay fun. Quint’s big gay t-shirts are as gay as rainbow sprinkles and a lot less calories.
