The Final Review is on the horizon. Yikes. For a little stress-management and a break from production, the crew had a night out on the town. We ate dinner at the ever popular Juan’s Flying Burrito [www.juansflyingburrito.com], where fiery hot Betty Page-esque waitresses served up Cajun-style burritos, spicy grilled shrimp salads, and margueritas to get us, uh… smilin’. As evidenced here:

Then we followed Byron’s lead to The Maple Leaf [www.frommers.com], a popular bar in Uptown’s “River Bend” neighborhood, and the first live music venue to reopen after Katrina. There, we found New Orleans’ own Rebirth Brass Band [www.rebirthbrassband.com] brings down the house every Tuesday night.

They had us jumping up and down to classic spirituals (“I’ll Fly Away”, “When the Saints…”) as well as originals that reflected their eager, young audience. Whoever wrote the Wikipedia Rebirth Band entry called their weekly gig “one of the pillars of the New Orleans music scene” and they ain’t kidding.
