Today was UK Day – presented by Ben Sherman. We’re stretching it a little bit since Mando Diao are from Sweden and Mew are from Denmark – but all the other bands are truly from the UK – we swear.
Mohair talking with Sundance Channel Online.
Mohair took the stage at 1pm hot off touring dates with Razorlight and simply rocked it. Kate Havnevik (she’s so nice!) followed with some euphoric, electronic, trip-hop from her latest record Melankton due out this month. Kate’s also had several songs featured on Grey’s Anatomy. Everybody’s favorite UK girl pop sensation The Pipettes we’re up next with their #1 fan Perez Hilton stopping by Cedar Street to visit and check out the set. Mando Diao and Mew then represented rock from Scandinavia and Glasgow’s own Fratellis, currently featured in the latest iTunes commercials, pack the courtyard to the gills.

The crowd then paid their respects to Thurston Moore (and friends) as he played a few acoustic/electric tracks from an upcoming album. It was awesome to see Thurston and Steve Shelly from Sonic Youth jamming on a few songs in such an intimate venue as the sun went down on Austin for the closing night of SXSW 2007. A nice end to an amazing and fun week! Video from the parties soon – we promise.
